The Role

As Technical Manager, you will be at the forefront of ensuring product safety, compliance, and quality. Leading a dedicated team of six, you will take ownership of the site’s technical and QA agenda, ensuring the business meets and exceeds BRCGS standards while maintaining strong relationships with major retail customers.

This is a hands-on, cross-functional role with responsibility for both the main production site and a secondary facility.

You will play a critical part in building robust technical systems, driving continuous improvement, and supporting the site’s ambitious expansion journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Technical and QA team, providing coaching, training, and development.

• Ensure compliance with BRCGS standards, customer codes of practice, and all food safety and legality requirements.

• Act as the primary technical lead for retailer relationships, audits, and inspections.

• Oversee product specifications, raw material approvals, and supplier management.

• Manage all testing regimes including shelf-life and quality assurance standards (QAS).

• Uphold food safety through HACCP leadership, policy enforcement, and thorough staff training.

• Monitor and continuously improve complaint ratios, CPMU, and product KPIs.

• Oversee lab operations and ensure effective documentation, traceability, and audit readiness.

• Take the lead on decision-making regarding product rejection, quarantine, legality, and testing.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Technical Manager (or similar senior technical/QA role) in the food & drink industry.

• Strong knowledge of BRCGS standards and experience managing retailer technical requirements.

• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to develop and engage a team.

• A confident communicator who can work effectively across functions and with external stakeholders.

• Commercially aware, detail-oriented, and driven to deliver excellence in product integrity and compliance.
