Our Client are a leading catering butchery business specialising in high-quality portion-controlled meat products.
With a turnover of £20m, they work closely with the hospitality, foodservice, and wholesale sectors, delivering precision butchery services with a strong focus on margins, portion control, and pricing strategies.
They are looking for a commercially astute Finance Director to play a critical role in driving financial strategy, operational efficiencies, and business growth.
This is a hands-on role requiring a deep understanding of unit margins, stock control, and financial reporting.
This role will be based in North London (WFH flexibility, office presence preferred)
The Role
As Finance Director, you will report to the MD and Holdco board (CEO, COO, CFO) and lead a small finance team, including Accounts Payable and Office Management. You will be responsible for financial control, reporting, and strategic financial planning to drive profitability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Business Insights
- Produce accurate and timely monthly Management Accounts (MIs)
- Convert trial balances into actionable insights, presenting financial data in a clear, strategic manner
- Identify key business trends and nuances beyond just numbers
Commercial & Strategic Finance
- Advise on and implement pricing strategies for new and existing accounts
- Drive margin control and portion management, ensuring profitability across all product lines
- Work closely with discounts, agencies, and buying groups, ensuring optimal financial structuring
Stock Control & Operational Finance
- Oversee stock takes with portion unit-based accounting (not just by boxes)
- Ensure robust cash flow management, forecasting, and cost controls
- Work closey with operations and procurement to optimize stock levels and reduce waste
AP/AR & Credit Control
- Oversee Accounts Payable/Receivable and ensure smooth cash collection
- Chase outstanding customer payments and allocate monies to the ledger
- Communicate trouble accounts and cash flow risks to the MD and Board
Systems & Process Improvement
- Work with INTACT software (prior experience not essential but usability test required)
- Drive automation, efficiency, and best practices in financial processes
Skills/Experience
- Food Industry / Catering Butchery Experience – Deep understanding of unit margins, portion control, and pricing strategies
- Financial Leadership – Strong experience in financial reporting, business analysis, and strategic planning
- Hands-on & Commercially Focused – Ability to interpret numbers into strategic decisions and work closely with the Board
- Stock & Margin Control Expertise – Experience in stock takes based on portion units
- Strong AP/AR & Credit Control Knowledge – Comfortable chasing payments, managing cash flow, and working with agencies/buying groups
- System Proficiency – Experience in financial software (INTACT a plus) and strong Excel skills
